About Our Upper School

Our Mission

St. Norbert School provides a dynamic, nurturing environment that allows students in 5th through 8th grade to become critical thinkers as they continue to develop emotionally and morally. Students are encouraged to work cooperatively, share their opinions, and become active learners with teacher instruction and guidance. The students are expected to learn and grow as individuals, recognize their God-given talents and skills, and become responsible stewards to their community.

Living an active faith-filled life is woven daily into the curriculum of the Upper School. Students take leadership roles in the monthly liturgies, feasts of Mary and the saints, and celebrations of the liturgical seasons. The sacrament of Confirmation takes place every year for the 6th grade students. Our students engage in meaningful service activities as an extension of their sacramental commitments.

Academic Curriculum

The Upper School curriculum is a rigorous high school preparatory program consisting of religion, English language arts, math, science and social studies. Research skills are emphasized and enhanced across the curriculum through the use of individual iPads. An Honors math program is offered to those students who qualify according to the criteria established by the Office of Catholic Education of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Students acquire hands-on science experience and foster critical thinking and problem solving skills in the state-of-the art science laboratory.

St. Norbert School follows the academic guidelines prescribed by the Office of Catholic Education of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools. Click here for specific curriculum information.

Co-curricular Areas

Creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are enhanced through weekly participation in art, library (Grades 5 and 6)  and music classes. Good health, the value of competition and good sportsmanship are emphasized in physical education. The 7th and 8th grade students participate in Spanish twice a week in preparation for high school. Weekly technology classes enhance the students’ tech skills as well as the use of a personal chromebook that is used daily in the classroom.
