Welcome Sister Barbara and Congratulations Miss Nunn!
This Fall the St. Norbert School community welcomed Sister Barbara Ann Montague to the faculty and congratulated Miss Cara Nunn on her new role teaching 3rd grade.
Sister Barbara
How long have you been with St. Norbert School and what is your area of focus?
I joined the SNS faculty in August. I teach Religious Enrichment to Grades 1-8 once a week. I also assist with Kindergarten, tutor individual students in Math, and work with small Reading groups.
What is your professional background?
I am an IHM Religious Sister and have worked in elementary education for 50 years. I taught Grades 4-8 in inner city schools in Philadelphia for 16 years. I served as principal at St. Gabriel School, Our Lady of Ransom School, and St. Cyril of Alexandria School. I have a BA from Immaculata University in Theology, Elementary Education, and Secondary Spanish, an MA from Marywood University in Bilingual/Bicultural Education, and a Certificate in Administration from the University of Dayton.
What inspired you to choose education as a vocation/profession?
The IHM Sisters who taught me in grade school and high school inspired me to become a Sister and a teacher.
Who are your heroes?
My heroes are my parents, who loved me and formed me into the person I am today. Their guidance, wisdom, and encouragement enabled me to meet the challenges of life and make a difference in the world.
What do you like about SNS so far?
I love being a part of SNS! Mrs. Hennessy, the faculty, and staff are inspirations of dedication and educational leadership. I love our students and they have been so welcoming and friendly. They are a joy to teach! The parents have been very welcoming too and I am impressed how involved they are in the school. SNS has a very strong Catholic Identity and it is wonderful to see how our students put their faith into practice!
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I like to read and exercise at the gym. I am part of a zumba class and really enjoy it!
Miss Nunn
How long have you been with St. Norbert School?
This is my third year at St. Norbert School. For the first 2 years I served as Kindergarten Aide, and this year I am excited to teach our 3rd graders.
What is your professional background?
I earned my B.A. in Psychology from Elizabethtown College and I am working on my Masters in Educational Leadership at Immaculata University.
Who or what inspired you to choose teaching as a profession?
My Kindergarten teacher inspired me to choose teaching as a profession. When I was six years old I started teaching imaginary students in my basement and I could not wait to have my own real classroom with actual students.
What do you like best so far about teaching 3rd grade?
My favorite part of teaching 3rd grade is seeing the students grow in their independence, their desire to learn, and their ability to work together.
What is your favorite tradition at SNS?
My favorite SNS tradition is definitely Buddy Day. I love seeing how excited the students get to spend time with their upper school buddies! It is a great opportunity for the SNS community to grow stronger.
What aspect of “Be Your Bulldog Best” most appeals to you?
“Be Compassionate” is the aspect of “Be Your Bulldog Best” that most appeals to me because I believe it allows for students to better connect with one another and with their teachers. A little compassion can go a long way!
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love to read, spend time with my family, watch Hallmark movies, and take naps.
